Waiting on Wednesday #30

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Playlist for the Dead by Michelle Falkoff

Set For Release On: January 27th, 2015

Summary From GoodreadsPlaylist for the Dead

A teenage boy tries to understand his best friend’s suicide by listening to the playlist of songs he left behind in this smart, voice-driven debut novel.

Here’s what Sam knows: There was a party. There was a fight. The next morning, his best friend, Hayden, was dead. And all he left Sam was a playlist of songs, and a suicide note: For Sam—listen and you’ll understand.

As he listens to song after song, Sam tries to face up to what happened the night Hayden killed himself. But it’s only by taking out his earbuds and opening his eyes to the people around him that he will finally be able to piece together his best friend’s story. And maybe have a chance to change his own.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

My first thought when I came across this book was that the cover made me excited to read it, simply because I love listening to music, and it seemed like the book might cover musical discussions, like how a specific song/artist might make a person feel. So that was certainly enough to get me to use it as a WoW post on its own.

Then I read the summary and immediately was reminded of one of my favorite books, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Both books have the MC listen to something (tapes or a playlist), both go over the difficult topic of suicide, and each book makes the MC take a second look at their surroundings and the people they thought they knew. I’m certainly intrigued to see how they compare and contrast.

Have you heard of Playlist for the Dead, or the Michelle Falkoff? If you have, are you planning on getting it too? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

The Shape of My Heart by Ann Aguirre

Set For Release On: November 25th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsThe Shape of My Heart

Some people wait decades to meet their soul mate. Courtney Kaufman suspects she met hers in high school only to lose him at seventeen. Since then, Courtney’s social life has been a series of meaningless encounters, though she’s made a few close friends along the way. Especially her roommate Max Cooper, who oozes damaged bad-boy vibes from every pore.

Max knows about feeling lost and trying to move beyond the pain he’s been on his own since he was sixteen. Now it’s time to find out if he can ever go home again, and Courtney’s the only one he trusts to go with him. But the trip to Providence could change everything because the more time he spends with Courtney, the harder it is to reconcile what he wants and what he thinks he deserves.

It started out so simple. One misfit helping another. Now Max will do anything to show Courtney that for every heart that’s ever been broken, there’s another that can make it complete.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

The Shape of My Heart is the third book in the 2B Trilogy by one of my favorite authors, Ann Aguirre. I just finished reading and reviewing the first book in the series that just came out, I Want It That Way, which I enjoyed quite a bit, and that’s got me excited for the rest of the series. I’ve got book two on Netgalley that I’ll be trying to get to soon, but then it’s that waiting period for the third, and final book in the series. I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

Have you heard of this series, or the author? If you have, did you get the first book already, and did you like it? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #27

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons

Set For Release On: February 10th, 2015

Summary From GoodreadsThe Glass Arrow

The Handmaid’s Tale meets Blood Red Road in Glass Arrow, the story of Aya, who lives with a small group of women on the run from the men who hunt them, men who want to auction off breeding rights to the highest bidder.

In a world where females are scarce and are hunted, then bought and sold at market for their breeding rights, 15-year old Aya has learned how to hide. With a ragtag bunch of other women and girls, she has successfully avoided capture and eked out a nomadic but free existence in the mountains.

But when Aya’s luck runs out and she’s caught by a group of businessmen on a hunting expedition, fighting to survive takes on a whole new meaning.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I absolutely loved the Article 5 trilogy by Kristen Simmons, and this sounds like it could be just as good, and possible even a bit more powerful. There are so many ways that Simmons could address the issues for women here that it makes me all the more excited to see what direction she will go. Will they be strong and resilient, will they fight with brawn or brains (or both?), and what will the journey for Aya be like?

Also of note is that she got a pretty amazing cover for The Glass Arrow, so congrats on that! I’m sure this book has made the rounds of Waiting on Wednesday already, as I’m usually late to the party on this, but I can’t help but want to share another Kristen Simmons series in the works!

Had you heard of this one before, and if you hadn’t does the summary intrigue you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #26

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Sacrifice by Brigid Kemmerer

Set For Release On: September 30th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsSacrifice

Michael Merrick is used to pressure.

He’s the only parent his three brothers have had for years. His power to control Earth could kill someone if he miscalculates. Now an Elemental Guide has it out for his family, and he’s all that stands in the way.

His girlfriend, Hannah, gets that. She’s got a kid of her own, and a job as a firefighter that could end her life without a moment’s notice.

But there are people who have had enough of Michael’s defiance, his family’s “bad luck.” Before he knows it, Michael’s enemies have turned into the Merricks’ enemies, and they’re armed for war.

They’re not interested in surrender. But Michael isn’t the white flag type anyway. There will be blood on the ground tonight…

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’m sure some of you are aware of Sacrifice already, but it is finally starting to get close to its release and I can’t wait! I’ve really enjoyed The Elemental Series so far and I’m sure seeing things from Michael’s perspective will be just as interesting and fun as it has been with the other brothers. I own the other four books in the series and this will find its way to my shelves I’m sure!

Had you heard of this one before, or read the other books in the series, and if not does it sound like something you’d enjoy? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #25

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Liars, Inc. by Paula Stokes

Set For Release On: March 24th, 2015

Summary From GoodreadsLiars

It all starts with one little lie…

Max Cantrell has never been a big fan of the truth, so when the opportunity arises to sell lies to his classmates, it sounds like a good way to make a little money and liven up a boring senior year. With the help of his friends Preston and Parvati, Max starts a business providing forged permission slips and cover stories for the students of Vista Palisades High. Liars, Inc. they call it. Suddenly everybody needs something and the cash starts pouring in. Who knew lying could be so lucrative?

When Preston wants his own cover story to go visit a girl he met online, Max doesn’t think twice about hooking him up. Until Preston never comes home. Then the evidence starts to pile up—terrifying clues that lead the cops to Preston’s body. Terrifying clues that point to Max as the murderer.

Can Max find the real killer before he goes to prison for a crime he didn’t commit? Paula Stokes starts with one single white lie and weaves a twisted tale that will have readers guessing until the explosive final chapters.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

It’s been a Paula Stokes kind of time here on the blog the last week or so, and I figured why not keep the trend going with Liars, Inc.?! Paula told me about this one when I went to the Mighty Mississippi Book Blast YA Tour and said I’d likely enjoy it even more than Lainey, so I’m sold!

Liars, Inc. is a long way off, not coming out until late March of next year, but it’ll definitely be a pre-order of mine. Had you heard of this one before, and if you hadn’t does the summary intrigue you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #24

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Maplecroft by Cherie Priest

Set For Release On: September 2nd, 2014

Summary From Goodreads

Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks; and when she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one….

The people of Fall River, Massachusetts, fear me. Perhaps rightfully so. I remain a suspect in the brutal deaths of my father and his second wife despite the verdict of innocence at my trial. With our inheritance, my sister, Emma, and I have taken up residence in Maplecroft, a mansion near the sea and far from gossip and scrutiny.

But it is not far enough from the affliction that possessed my parents. Their characters, their very souls, were consumed from within by something that left malevolent entities in their place. It originates from the ocean’s depths, plaguing the populace with tides of nightmares and madness.

This evil cannot hide from me. No matter what guise it assumes, I will be waiting for it. With an axe.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

As usual I was alerted to this title thanks to Cover Snark, a feature on A Reader of Fictions that I adore, and had to make it this WoW! Look at the prettiness that is this cover!!! There is elegance mixed with brutality, refinement combined with savagery, it’s beautiful! *stares* O_O

*still staring* O_O Seriously though, the cover is amazing, and on top of it the premise sounds awesome. What forms will this “evil” take? How many cool battles will ensue? Whatever will she wear as she attempts to slay it?! So many questions!

What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #22

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Rain by Amanda Sun

Set For Release On: June 24th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsRain

American Katie Green has decided to stay in Japan. She’s started to build a life in the city of Shizuoka, and she can’t imagine leaving behind her friends, her aunt and especially Tomohiro, the guy she’s fallen in love with. But her return is not as simple as she thought. She’s flunking out of Japanese school and committing cultural faux pas wherever she goes. Tomohiro is also struggling—as a Kami, his connection to the ancient gods of Japan and his power to bring drawings to life have begun to spiral out of control.

When Tomo decides to stop drawing, the ink finds other ways to seep into his life—blackouts, threatening messages and the appearance of unexplained sketches. Unsure how to help Tomo, Katie turns to an unexpected source for help—Jun, her former friend and a Kami with an agenda of his own. But is Jun really the ally he claims to be? In order to save themselves, Katie and Tomohiro must unravel the truth about Tomo’s dark ancestry, as well as Katie’s, and confront one of the darkest gods in Japanese legend.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’ll admit, I still haven’t read Ink even though it has been sitting in my TBR stacks since shortly after its release. However, I really liked the premise of it, the cover is awesome, and the setting is excellent. So I have high hopes for Ink and therefore am excited for Rain which comes out this summer.

The downside here is that Rain’s cover isn’t nearly as good as Ink’s. The guy’s face is alright though I’m not sure why he’s so pissed off, but the girl’s is just off. Her right eye doesn’t look natural at all, like it was put too far in. I don’t know. Regardless I want to read this as well as Ink and see if the execution can match up to the potential of the premise.

Waiting on Wednesday #21

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

The Fall by Bethany Griffin

Set For Release On: October 7th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsThe Fall

Madeline Usher is doomed.

She has spent her life fighting fate, and she thought she was succeeding. Until she woke up in a coffin.

Ushers die young. Ushers are cursed. Ushers can never leave their house, a house that haunts and is haunted, a house that almost seems to have a mind of its own. Madeline’s life—revealed through short bursts of memory—has hinged around her desperate plan to escape, to save herself and her brother. Her only chance lies in destroying the house.

In the end, can Madeline keep her own sanity and bring the house down? The Fall is a literary psychological thriller, reimagining Edgar Allan Poe’s classic The Fall of the House of Usher.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Read that last bit again. A reimagining of something Edgar Allan Poe wrote? Do you need any other reason to check this out? I don’t. However, the cover really does it for me too, though the font isn’t as somber as the rest of it which is a little distracting.

The main character is going to be starting in a coffin, how is that not incredibly intriguing? I can’t wait to discover what is going on in this world, how she plans to escape and rescue her brother, and what the heck is going on with this darker version of a “smart” house.

This is going to be a perfect October read, one I’ll likely save for Halloween unless I somehow get an early copy of it. What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Gilded by Christina L. Farley

Set For Release On: March 1st, 2014

Summary From Goodreads

Sixteen-year-old Jae Hwa Lee is a Korean-American girl with a black belt, a deadly proclivity with steel-tipped arrows, and a chip on her shoulder the size of Korea itself. When her widowed dad uproots her to Seoul from her home in L.A., Jae thinks her biggest challenges will be fitting in to a new school and dealing with her dismissive Korean grandfather. Then she discovers that a Korean demi-god, Haemosu, has been stealing the soul of the oldest daughter of each generation in her family for centuries. And she’s next.

But that’s not Jae’s only problem.

There’s also Marc. Irresistible and charming, Marc threatens to break the barriers around Jae’s heart. As the two grow closer, Jae must decide if she can trust him. But Marc has a secret of his own—one that could help Jae overturn the curse on her family for good. It turns out that Jae’s been wrong about a lot of things: her grandfather is her greatest ally, even the tough girl can fall in love, and Korea might just be the home she’s always been looking for.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’m sure plenty of you have seen this book around on other WoW posts or anything connected to 2014 debut authors, but I HAD to pick it. Why? Look at that freaking amazing cover! *ogles it* O_O

Seriously though, the book sounds like it has tons of potential and there aren’t enough books set in Korea that are YA, so yes please! Plus, a bad-ass black-belted, arrow shooting, demi-god fighting female MC? Done. Sold. I can’t wait for this book, it looks fantastic, and as long as that romance is done well *fingers crossed* then I’m sure to love it. ^.^

Does Gilded sound like a book you would enjoy? Have you heard of it before, and what do you think about the premise? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong

Set For Release On: April 8th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsSea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong

In the Forest of the Dead, where the empire’s worst criminals are exiled, twin sisters Moria and Ashyn are charged with a dangerous task. For they are the Keeper and the Seeker, and each year they must quiet the enraged souls of the damned.

Only this year, the souls will not be quieted.

Ambushed and separated by an ancient evil, the sisters’ journey to find each other sends them far from the only home they’ve ever known. Accompanied by a stubborn imperial guard and a dashing condemned thief, the girls cross a once-empty wasteland, now filled with reawakened monsters of legend, as they travel to warn the emperor. But a terrible secret awaits them at court—one that will alter the balance of their world forever.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

This is another book that I hadn’t heard of until the Cover Snark feature that Christina at A Reader of Fictions does, and I am so glad I did! First off, I’ll be trying to get the UK cover which is the one shown above, because I would love to have that on my shelves. Secondly, emperors always make me think Asia, specifically Japan, and while this is Fantasy and likely set in a completely different world, I’m still excited by the possibilities of that type of culture being infused with the fantastic. Thirdly, and finally, while there are a decent number of books about twin sisters, not many are done in this kind of setting/genre/storyline and I really am looking forward to seeing how that dynamic works.

Does Sea of Shadows appeal to you? What do you think the setting will be like? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Relax, I’m a Ninja by Natalie Whipple

Set For Release On: June 3rd, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsRelax, I'm a Ninja

A Clan of ninjas in San Francisco may sound improbable—but as the son of a ninja master, Tosh Ito knows what lurks in the shadows of his city. Or at least he thought he did.

When a killer with a poisoned blade starts cutting down teens, Tosh enlists Amy Sato—newest ninja recruit and his best friend’s crush—and sets out to uncover the killer’s identity. What they find is ninjutsu more evil than they could have ever imagined.

As Amy and Tosh grow closer, they discover their connection unleashes a legendary power that could stop the murders. Problem is, that power may be exactly what the killer is looking for, and wielding it could cost them both their souls.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I found this one courtesy of one of my favorite book blogging features, Cover Snark over at A Reader of Fictions, and proceeded to have a giggle fit for a few minutes. I don’t know why it is so funny to me, but there it is. However, I would like to read more books that have a combat-focused theme to them, and I think Relax, I’m a Ninja has a lot of potential. Besides, who doesn’t need more good ninja books?

Does Relax, I’m a Ninja appeal to you? Do you find the cover as funny as I do or am I just nutty? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #14

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Dear Killer by Katherine Ewell

Set For Release On: April 1st, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsDear Killer by Katherine Ewell

Rule One—Nothing is right, nothing is wrong.
Rule Two—Be careful.
Rule Three—Fight using your legs whenever possible, because they’re the strongest part of your body. Your arms are the weakest.
Rule Four—Hit to kill. The first blow should be the last, if at all possible.
Rule Five—The letters are the law.

Kit takes her role as London’s notorious “Perfect Killer” seriously. The letters and cash that come to her via a secret mailbox are not a game; choosing who to kill is not an impulse decision. Every letter she receives begins with “Dear Killer,” and every time Kit murders, she leaves a letter with the dead body. Her moral nihilism and thus her murders are a way of life—the only way of life she has ever known.

But when a letter appears in the mailbox that will have the power to topple Kit’s convictions as perfectly as she commits her murders, she must make a decision: follow the only rules she has ever known, or challenge Rule One, and go from there.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

What draws me into Dear Killer the most is that the summary on Amazon mentions that fans of Thirteen Reasons Why, my favorite book of 2013, would enjoy it. After that the rest is bonus points. I tend to like books with the “rules” to live by theme, and a female badass? I’m in! Just another great book coming out in April (of which there seem to be so many) this year! Squee!

Does Dear Killer sound like something you enjoy? Had you heard of it before (since it is a debut)? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

The Unbound (The Archived #2) by Victoria Schwab

Set For Release On: January 28th, 2014

Summary From Goodreads

Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Last summer, Mackenzie Bishop, a Keeper tasked with stopping violent Histories from escaping the Archive, almost lost her life to one. Now, as she starts her junior year at Hyde School, she’s struggling to get her life back. But moving on isn’t easy — not when her dreams are haunted by what happened. She knows the past is past, knows it cannot hurt her, but it feels so real, and when her nightmares begin to creep into her waking hours, she starts to wonder if she’s really safe.

Meanwhile, people are vanishing without a trace, and the only thing they seem to have in common is Mackenzie. She’s sure the Archive knows more than they are letting on, but before she can prove it, she becomes the prime suspect. And unless Mac can track down the real culprit, she’ll lose everything, not only her role as Keeper, but her memories, and even her life. Can Mackenzie untangle the mystery before she herself unravels?

With stunning prose and a captivating mixture of action, romance, and horror, The Unbound delves into a richly imagined world where no choice is easy and love and loss feel like two sides of the same coin.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’ve mentioned The Unbound quite a bit lately including yesterday’s Top Ten Tuesday as one of my most anticipated winter reads. I really enjoyed The Archived and I’m so excited to read The Unbound when it comes out on the 28th of January! I plan to review it the day of so if you want a fresh opinion on it feel free to stop by that day. ^.^ Victoria Schwab is amazing, both as an author and, of course, as a person, and I love how much recognition she got for Vicious. I urge people to check out The Archived if you haven’t already and you’ll have plenty of time before The Unbound comes out to get as excited as I am!

Does The Unbound appeal to you? Are you as excited as I am for it? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Unhinged (Splintered #2) by A.G. Howard

Set For Release On: January 7th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsUnhinged by A.G. Howard

Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the guy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly seductive Morpheus and the vindictive Queen Red. Now all she has to do is graduate high school and make it through prom so she can attend the prestigious art school in London she’s always dreamed of.

That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.

As prom and graduation creep closer, Alyssa juggles Morpheus’s unsettling presence in her real world with trying to tell Jeb the truth about a past he’s forgotten. Glimpses of Wonderland start to bleed through her art and into her world in very disturbing ways, and Morpheus warns that Queen Red won’t be far behind.

If Alyssa stays in the human realm, she could endanger Jeb, her parents, and everyone she loves. But if she steps through the rabbit hole again, she’ll face a deadly battle that could cost more than just her head.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Just about every book blogger I know is either incredibly excited for this to come out and likely has it on pre-order or their holiday gift list, or has read the ARC of it and is raving about its awesomeness. I am in the first group and can’t wait for it to arrive on release day, which is only about a month away! If I could I’d make time go faster just so I could get this book. Splintered is in my top 5 books that I read in 2013, and I expect Unhinged to quickly become, and stay, in my top 5 for 2014.

Does Unhinged appeal to you? Are you as excited as I (and seemingly the rest of the bookish blogosphere) am for it? What book are you “Waiting On”? For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

The Falconer (The Falconer #1) by Elizabeth May

Set For Release On: September 19, 2013

Summary From Goodreads

18-year-old Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, was destined to a life carefully planned around Edinburgh’s social events – right up until a faery kills her mother.

Now it’s the 1844 winter season. Between a seeming endless number of parties, Aileana slaughters faeries in secret. Armed with modified percussion pistols and explosives, every night she sheds her aristocratic facade and goes hunting. She’s determined to track down the faery who murdered her mother, and to destroy any who prey on humans in the city’s many dark alleyways.

But she never even considered that she might become attracted to one. To the magnetic Kiaran MacKay, the faery who trained her to kill his own kind. Nor is she at all prepared for the revelation he’s going to bring. Because Midwinter is approaching, and with it an eclipse that has the ability to unlock a Fae prison and begin the Wild Hunt.

A battle looms, and Aileana is going to have to decide how much she’s willing to lose – and just how far she’ll go to avenge her mother’s murder.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

How freaking awesome does this sound?! I’m slowly immersing myself in the steampunk genre, as much as I can get my hands on, and this would be a fantastic continued foray into that kind of world. Add the fantastical with faerys and you have quite the story! I do worry about the romance, but my hope is that there is no insta-love and it develops naturally, well…as naturally as a human/faery romance can. Also, how about that cover? Freaking awesome, especially when you pay attention to that gun she is holding, got to love steampunk weapons!

Then he meets Mia. Her dreams, calm and beautifully uncomplicated, allow him blissful rest that is utterly addictive. Parker starts going to bizarre lengths to catch Mia’s eye every day. Everyone at school thinks he’s gone over the edge, even his best friend. And when Mia is threatened by a true stalker, everyone thinks it’s Parker.

Suffering blackouts, Parker begins to wonder if he is turning into someone dangerous. What if the monster stalking Mia is him after all?

Can you believe this is a freaking debut?! When I found out about Insomnia during a twitter chat (as well as a bunch of other fantastic debuts) I had to pre-order it immediately. My initial reaction to the summary was “this seems like the reverse of David Levithan’s Every Day with a darker edge to it, awesome!” so that’s already a step in the right direction don’t you think? Now thinking about it there are some similar elements here to Ethan’s character in The Brightest Kind of Darkness series, so that’s another potential parallel for you. I guess I’ve been reading a bunch of mind-bender type books lately, I can’t wait to read this one too! By the way, I don’t do this in my WoW posts normally, but if you want to pre-order this like I did it is available on Amazon for only $5.55!

Does Insomnia appeal to you? Do you already have it pre-ordered or will you now for that crazy low price? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! :)

Waiting on Wednesday #8

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Horde (Razorland #3) by Ann Aguirre

Set For Release On: October 29, 2013

So I just finished reading Enclave a couple days ago, if you want to read my review feel free to do so here, and though I have yet to read Outpost just yet despite owning a copy and really wanting too (soon I hope), Horde is already calling to me. I can’t wait to see what adventures Deuce has, how the “horde” is going to come into play in the book and whether or not our beloved heroine can survive the onslaught.

I’m pretty sure ARCs of this book aren’t even available yet so I’m definitely going to be waiting for quite some time (that would be assuming I could even get my hands on an ARC which isn’t likely anyhow). How am I supposed to wait until October? HOW?!

Anyway…if you haven’t read Enclave and you don’t understand why I have all of this pent up excitement for Horde then please do yourself a kindness and do so. It’s fantastic, the best dystopian I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading, and I’m sure you’d love it. I can’t speak for Outpost (yet) but I’d check that out too once you are done with Enclave. Until then maybe I (and you as well) should/could check out Ann’s Sirantha Jax series, sound good? Alrighty! Well enough gushing from me.

Does Horde appeal to you? Do you already have it pre-ordered? Have you read Enclave and/or Outpost and if you have what did you think of them? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! 🙂

Waiting on Wednesday #7

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson

Set For Release On: February 26th, 2013

Summary From Goodreads

After her near-fatal run-in with the Jack the Ripper copycat, Rory Devereaux has been living in Bristol under the close watch of her parents. So when her therapist suddenly suggests she return to Wexford, Rory jumps at the chance. But Rory’s brush with the Ripper touched her more than she thought possible: she’s become a human terminus, with the power to eliminate ghosts on contact. She soon finds out that the Shades—the city’s secret ghost-fighting police—are responsible for her return. The Ripper may be gone, but now there is a string of new inexplicable deaths threatening London. Rory has evidence that the deaths are no coincidence. Something much more sinister is going on, and now she must convince the squad to listen to her before it’s too late.

In this follow-up to the Edgar Award-nominated The Name of the Star, Maureen Johnson adds another layer of spectacularly gruesome details to the streets of London that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

I know, it’s going to be released this month so I’m not “waiting” that long, but still! I have this on pre-order from a bookstore in Chicago as part of an independent bookstore campaign which includes a signed bookplate and a bunch of awesome stickers and can’t wait to get it! For more information on that go here.

As for the book, I’ll admit, I still need to read The Name of the Star, I’m bad I know. However, I know because it is Maureen Johnson that I will love it and I can’t read them both. The Madness Underneath is guaranteed to be made of pure awesome and I recommend you check out the link to pre-order a copy if you haven’t already. I mean come on, how awesome is the power to eliminate ghosts just by touching them?

Does The Madness Underneath appeal to you? Do you already have it pre-ordered? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! 🙂

Waiting On Wednesday #6

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

River of Stars by Guy Gavriel Kay

Set For Release On: April, 2013

Summary From Goodreads:

In his critically acclaimed novel Under Heaven, Guy Gavriel Kay told a vivid and powerful story inspired by China’s Tang Dynasty. Now, the international bestselling and multiple award-winning author revisits that invented setting four centuries later with an epic of prideful emperors, battling courtiers, bandits and soldiers, nomadic invasions, and a woman battling in her own way, to find a new place for women in the world – a world inspired this time by the glittering, decadent Song Dynasty.

Ren Daiyan was still just a boy when he took the lives of seven men while guarding an imperial magistrate of Kitai. That moment on a lonely road changed his life—in entirely unexpected ways, sending him into the forests of Kitai among the outlaws. From there he emerges years later—and his life changes again, dramatically, as he circles towards the court and emperor, while war approaches Kitai from the north.

Lin Shan is the daughter of a scholar, his beloved only child. Educated by him in ways young women never are, gifted as a songwriter and calligrapher, she finds herself living a life suspended between two worlds. Her intelligence captivates an emperor—and alienates women at the court. But when her father’s life is endangered by the savage politics of the day, Shan must act in ways no woman ever has.

In an empire divided by bitter factions circling an exquisitely cultured emperor who loves his gardens and his art far more than the burdens of governing, dramatic events on the northern steppe alter the balance of power in the world, leading to events no one could have foretold, under the river of stars.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

I’ll be honest, I’m a sucker when it comes to doing a twist on parts of history and this is no exception. The Song Dynasty? Yes please! A young woman having to overcome obstacles and battle the powers that be? Tell me more! This sounds fascinating to me and I can’t wait for April so that I can read it! ^.^

Does River of Stars sound appealing to you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! 🙂

Saturday – Stacking The Shelves #9 & NaNoWriMo Day 9

This last week has been crazy as usual! I do want to apologize for only doing the one review last week but I haven’t had the chance to read much lately which makes doing new reviews pretty difficult! I had a blast during Haunted Week which wrapped up, I can’t wait to do something like that again next year when Halloween rolls around. NaNoWriMo, or for those not familiar with it otherwise known as National Novel Writing Month, kicked off this week and my daily posts recapping my days writing began as well. It has been challenging to write as much as I want to and that will be made pretty obvious if you decide to read my Day 3 post which is already up here.

Due to how much time and energy NaNoWriMo takes my reviews will definitely be sporadic as I have mentioned a couple times in my daily NaNo posts. I hope you can forgive me for that! I do have one planned for tomorrow but after that they will be relatively random so I won’t be fixing reviews to dates like I usually do. I will continue to participate in the memes since those are relatively easy to do and hopefully those along with my daily NaNo updates will be enough to tide you over for now. ^.^

Thanks for stopping by, leave a comment on anything I’ve mentioned here and I will make sure to read and possibly reply as well, I do love to read them! Feel free to leave a link to your Sunday Post or whatever other bookish meme you partake in over the weekend and I will be sure to stop by! Enjoy your Sunday. 🙂

Waiting On Wednesday #5

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Pretty Dark Nothing by Heather L. Reid

Set For Release On: April, 2013

Summary From Goodreads:

It’s been twenty three days since Quinn has slept for more than minutes at a time. Demons have invaded her dreams, stalking her, and whispering of her death. The lack of sleep and crippling fear are ruining her life. Energy drinks and caffeine pills don’t make a dent. When Quinn dozes off in the school hallway, Aaron, an amnesiac with a psychic ability, accidentally enters her nightmare. The demons are determined to keep them apart, and Aaron from discovering the secret locked away in his memory. Together, they could banish the darkness back to the underworld for good. That is, unless the demons kill them first.

————————————————————————————————————————–

This one caught my eye with the gloomy/creepy cover that they went with. A nice mix of the paranormal with some good creepy vibes is right up my alley. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together. ^.^

Does Pretty Dark Nothing sound appealing to you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! 🙂

Waiting On Wednesday #4

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Fade to Black by Francis Knight

Set For Release On: February 7th, 2013

Summary from Goodreads: Mahala: a city built in the dark depths of a valley. A city built up in layers, not across – where streets are built upon streets, buildings balance precariously upon buildings. A city that the Ministry rules from its lofty perch at the sunlit summit & where the forsaken lurk in the shadowy depths of the Pit.

Rojan is a bounty hunter trying to make his way in the city. Everyone knows he’s a womaniser, a shirker of all responsibility, but they don’t know he’s also a pain-mage: able to draw magic from his own & other people’s pain. He’s not keen on using it (not least because it’s outlawed), but when his niece is abducted and taken to the dark depths of the Pit, he may just be forced to unleash his power . . .

I am already really excited to see how the world building works out with the way they described the city. Can you even imagine living in a place like that? There are of course a bunch of metaphors that you can see right off with that structuralization type and it will be interesting to see how Knight conveys them.

Does Fade to Black sound interesting to you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave your link and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday post, hopefully you’ll come “hopping” back soon! ^.^

Waiting On Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the lovely people over at Breaking the Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Hot Blooded (Jessica McClain Book 2) by Amanda Carlson

Set For Release On: April 23, 2013

Summary From Goodreads:

It hasn’t been the best week for Jessica McClain.

Her mate has been kidnapped by a Goddess hell-bent on revenge — but Jessica is playing for keeps.

Because she’s the only female werewolf in town…it comes with its own set of rules…and powers.

Aided by two vamps, two loyal Pack members, and one very reluctant human, Jessica must rescue her man while coming to terms with what being a wolf really means.

All in a day’s work for a girl.

The second novel in the Jessica McClain series is a full on action adventure featuring one angry Goddess and plenty of monsters, demons, and a few newly risen beasties…

Ever since I received my ARC of Full Blooded and subsequently devoured it I have been very excited, and impatient, for the release of Hot Blooded which is book two in the series. If you follow my blog or my twitter you would know I gave Full Blooded a five star (or five smiling frodo if you prefer) review and I expect Hot Blooded to be just as well done.

What is the book you are “waiting on” this week? Let me know in the comments! Thanks as always for reading. ^.^
