Bout of Books 9.0 Recap

Bout of Books

Well it was fun while it lasted, but this edition of the Bout of Books readathon is over! I hope you all had fun with the twitter chats, challenges, and bookish goodness this past week! For me it was a resounding success, easily the best I’ve done in one of these readathons so far. I read a total of twelve books (two of which were novellas) getting me to a total of just over 3,000 pages! I got to experience new authors, continue some series I love, and have a blast with the twitter chats. I didn’t do any challenges, but that’s fine, my focus was on ze books. Now, without further ado, here are the books I read!

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline – 5/5 – reviewed it here!

The Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan – 5/5

The Distance Between Us by Kasie West – 5/5

Curtsies & Conspiracies by Gail Carriger – 5/5

Unhinged by A.G. Howard – 4/5 – reviewed it here!

Giggles by Michael Crane – 2/5 – reviewed it here!

Jenny Pox by J.L. Bryan – 5/5 – review coming on Thursday!

The Wicked Woods by Kelly Apple – 5/5 – special review coming on Friday!

Scorch by Gina Damico – 5/5

The Brokenhearted by Amelia Kahaney – 4/5

The Wicked Wolf by Kelly Apple – 3/5

Fungus of the Heart by Jeremy C. Shipp – 5/5 – review coming next Monday!

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Overall I’m pretty happy with the reading I got done despite having two days where I didn’t complete a book, one of which I didn’t read altogether. The readathon was a blast as always and I can’t wait to participate in the next Bout of Books as well as plenty of other readathons in the near future. The next semester of college starts today so it is back to the grind, and it is events like this that help me get ahead on the blog, I can’t thank Amanda and Kelly enough! Thanks as always for reading! ^.^

Sunday Post #13

Sunday Post hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by the amazing Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It is a chance to share news, recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

I love participating in Sunday Post because I can provide a recap of books I read, talk about what is coming up next week, and discuss any books I received in the past week!

Books I Bought

I only bought one book this week, an eBook that just came out on the 5th, The Wicked Wolf by Kelly Apple. The Wicked Wolf by Kelly Apple

This is book two of the Monstrous Tales series, a naughty Adult series with paranormal fantasies. I read book one, The Wicked Woods, as part of an event in the Bout of Books readathon and really liked it so I can’t wait to check out this one too!

You’ll likely be seeing both of them appearing on the blog soon for Frodo’s Frisky Friday. ^.^

Bout of Books 9.0

Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, Jan 6th and runs through Sunday, Jan 12th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 9.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I love the Bout of Books read-a-thon, it’s definitely a favorite of mine and probably the best there is for read-a-thons longer than 24hrs. There are always great prizes, fun challenges and of course, the amazing twitter chats! I’ll be visiting my grandma for the majority of the readathon, so I don’t know if I’ll get to as many books as I’d like, but I love it too much to pass completely, so I will try and fit as much reading time as my schedule (and politeness) allows. As always the challenge updates as well as updated stats will be below so look for that, and the books listed are only some of what I may or may not read, enjoy the read-a-thon!

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Another Little Piece by Kate Karyus Quinn

Horde by Ann Aguirre

The Brokenhearted by Amelia Kahaney

The Future of Us by Jay Asher

Curtsies & Conspiracies by Gail Carriger

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon

How can you not love Dewey’s Read-a-Thon? It is easily one of my favorites of the year and the amount of awesomeness they pack into it is always amazing. Challenges, twitter conversations, prizes and wonderful hosts throughout the 24 hours makes for a crazy but super fun day of (kinda) reading. Anyhow, on to my books! This is by no means a full list, but it has a bunch I’d really like to get to and I have SOOO many to choose from. ^.^ If you want to join in on the fun click the pretty picture above or on Twitter by using the hashtag #readathon! Oh and my challenge posts will be under the list so look for that!

Challenges

Introductory Questionnaire:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Small town USA, aka Cologne, MN
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Chips and Salsa!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I’m a nerdfighting wrimo that paints LotR figures. Sexy, I know.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? The last time I was doing Dewey’s I got distracted by too many non-bookish things, so the goal for today is to get lots of reading in as well as participating in some fun challenges!

Book Tunes: The Opal Deception paired with Joan Jett’s Bad Reputation!

Mid Event Survey:

1) How are you doing? Sleepy? Are your eyes tired? I‘m doing fine in terms of being fully awake, but the last book was somewhat of a mood killer.
2) What have you finished reading? The Opal Deception by Eoin Colfer, William Shakespeare’s Star Wars by Ian Doescher, and Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
3) What is your favorite read so far? The Opal Deception, I’m a sucker for Artemis Fowl books.
4) What about your favorite snacks? I think I enjoyed the chips and salsa the most so far, might have more later on.
5) Have you found any new blogs through the readathon? If so, give them some love! I did interact a little bit with one of the #TeamTiger cheerleaders, her Twitter handle is @toofondbeth and her blog is http://toofond.wordpress.com/!

Totally Random Tuesday: The I’m Not Abandoning You Edition

TotallyRandomTuesday

Totally Random Tuesday

If you have been following the blog recently you may have noticed that there wasn’t a post on Sunday or Monday, for this I apologize. School caught up and I was sick for the last week with a mixture of stomach, nose, and headache issues. Yesterday was the first day I managed to leave the house so obviously it wasn’t a funfest. However, I do have today as the last day of the wonderful Fraterfest readathon and I plan to read at least one more book, possibly two. I also have the next two days free of college stuff AND my favorite readathon of the year, at least for 24hr ones, Dewey’s readathon is SATURDAY!!! I’m incredibly excited because Dewey’s is always amazing, a ton of fun, and I have that day free as well so I’m all in on the 24hr book/twitter/challenge/awesomeness.

What does that rambling all mean? I’m stockpiling reviews, huzzah! I currently have six books read and waiting to be reviewed plus between now and the end of Dewey’s I should have that number into double digits which would be awesomesauce and amazeballs and all of the other goofy combo words we use now. So here’s the deal for this week. There will not be a YA Wednesday tomorrow, but there WILL be a wrapup post for Fraterfest to make up for that! There WILL be a Frodo’s Frisky Friday AND I’m doing another giant book haul Sunday Post to recap all of the amazing things I’ve received in the past ~3weeks, so hopefully that gets you a bit excited! Thanks as always for reading and I’m off to do some reading of my own! See you tomorrow! ^.^

Fraterfest

Fraterfest Read-A-Thon is a fun way for bloggers to attack their TBR piles, specifically the books that contain “things that go bump in the night” (think vampires, zombies, werewolves, shapeshifters, ghosts, etc.) and is hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
