Frodo’s Frisky Friday: Bathhouse Nights

Frodo's Frisky Friday

Bathhouse Nights by Cameron D. James

Summary From Goodreads??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

In the bathhouse, anything is possible, especially at night when all the studs come out to play.

For cheerleader Daniel, his dream-come-true is a football jock named Justin, but no one in the bathhouse measures up, no matter how hard he tries to play pretend.

Justin is straight, of course. Aren’t they all? There’s no reason for Daniel to expect he’ll score with him…until the night he spots him in the hot tub.

It’s time for another edition of Frodo’s Hobbit Sized Reviews! Short and sweet just like 2nd breakfast!

Bathhouse Nights is something a bit different than my usual “naughty” read. I tend to gravitate toward novellas or short stories that at least have a decent amount of compelling story involved, and while I understand that is somewhat niche, it is also what separates them from being flat out written porn. James walks that fine line, but includes just enough decent plot to make it work.

There are a few issues brought up in Bathhouse Nights that are briefly examined and discussed, such as that of fixation, domination, bullying, and especially that of someone who thought they were straight having to come to grips with their reality. The transition isn’t the same for anyone, and while I can’t go into too much detail without spoiling the ending (given it’s a short story), I will say that this was a different perspective then what I’ve come across in the past.

I enjoyed that feeling of uniqueness, at least in terms of literary story if not in real life. As for the sexier moments, there were plenty of those, so if that’s what you’re into… well I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself fully. It’s all M/M, which is still somewhat rare, and the sex scenes are written out quite nicely, though they are often pretty short.

If I had to make any complaints about Bathhouse Nights it would be that its transition from Then to Now points of view were a bit to frequent, and a tad rough. This might have been better had it been a glimpse of the present, then a bulk amount of the past, before a full scene back in present time, but oh well. It’s a good piece, and I think most M/M enthusiasts will find something in it for them, as there is a decent variety of sex styles. Thanks as always for reading. ^.^

Frodo’s Frisky Friday: Club Midnight by Leigh Wilder

Frodo's Frisky Friday

Club Midnight

Summary From AmazonClub Midnight

Jamie-boy and Damian are settling into an odd life together, but money troubles force Damian to ask for assistance from his sire. While he’s away Jamie-boy is introduced to Club Midnight, a sadistic sex club catering to Daybreak, the anti-vampire group responsible for the destruction of Damian’s bar.

What Jamie-boy sees there ignites a passion in him, but there’s more to Club Midnight than kinky sex. The leader of Daybreak is cruel and manipulative and the fledgling vampires of New Franklin are in over their heads without Damian. Lives are at stake, but can Jamie-boy and Damian rescue their people, bring down Club Midnight, and still have time to get it on?

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Club Midnight is book three in the Deadly Liaisons series. For those of you who haven’t read this series, and I encourage you to do so, this is M/M sub/dom with the sweet and innocent Jamie-boy being the sub, and Damian, a vampire with a hard exterior but an inner soft side being the dom. Club Midnight has the most action, and in this case I actually don’t mean the naughty variety, though there is plenty of that, of the series. There is a pretty crazy fight scene, and when vampires are involved you know that will pick it up a couple notches.

Club Midnight is also the naughtiest of the three books. It features BDSM, and at the sex club…well they take things to a whole new level, but I won’t spoil that for you. The relationship between Damian and Jamie-boy continues to grow stronger but their devotion is tested a few times in Club Midnight. Damian has to battle his feelings for his sire, Jamie-boy meets a very tempting individual at the new club, and both of them have to decide how important their relationship is and what they’ll sacrifice to keep it.

I really enjoy reading from Damian’s perspective. There is a lot of depth with his character and while his affections are pretty clear, it always seems that Wilder could take him in a thousand different directions. We are slowly seeing what makes him tick and how devoted he is to the town he lives in as well as the people he cares about. Wilder is slowly breaking him down for us and it is wonderful. As for Jamie-boy, despite his tendency to be a bit clingy, his character has grown on me. He’s a simple, sweet character, and while that might seem cliche (for a sub especially) it just works here. Club Midnight shows him at his most daring, a side I wasn’t sure I’d ever see. It added another dimension to his character, he isn’t (just) a love struck fool anymore, he breaks some rules, and gets a bit of a (soft) edge to him.

Overall I would say that this is my favorite of the three books. Clearly there is more character development which was great, there are some very naughty scenes for those interested in just that, and the plot is really intriguing and I would love to know what comes next. The relationship between Damian and Jamie-boy is really very sweet and it is hard not to fall in love right along with them. Club Midnight is steamy, naughty, witty, and is definitely a read I would recommend. Thanks as always for reading! ^.^

Frodo’s Frisky Friday: Bran of Greenwood and the Scary Fairy Princess by Zoe E. Whitten

Frodo's Frisky Friday

Bran of Greenwood and the Scary Fairy Princess

Summary From Goodreads:

It’s a simple story about a half-orc barbarian, an elvish thief, a nightmare, a quest, a kidnapping…I’ll start over. It’s a complicated and raunchy romp following the gastronomical and sexual adventures of Lana the light-fingered and Bran of Greenwood in their quest for a certain belt. A 2010 NaNoWriMo “winner,” this is cheesy porn at its finest, best read after The Hunger Games. Yes, really.

It’s time for another edition of Frodo’s Hobbit Sized Reviews! Short and sweet just like 2nd breakfast!

The thing you have to understand when you go to read this story is that the author says in a note to her readers that this is a “lazy doodle” so it isn’t one of her masterpieces. This makes it all the more amazing how great the story turns out to be. I laughed throughout the entire piece, from the nods to Monty Python to the joking references to The Hunger Games, from the “normal” sexual tales to the absolutely bizarre and hilarious, it all works.

The characters are fun and engaging, the story is really strong and would hold up on its own which is quite the feat, and Lana’s plight is actually quite moving. There is a sweet relationship mixed in with the silly sexual exploits that take place and they mesh very well. Simply put, it’s all of Whitten’s fantastic skill mixed in with hilarity and naughty bits. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a light naughty story. Thanks for reading! ^.^
