Where in the world is Frodo?

My Annual Disappearing Act

That’s right, I haven’t fallen off the face of the Earth, been eaten by the gnome army I hired for Halloween that I haven’t paid yet (though that is a legitimate fear right now), or joined the circus. However, it is November, and that means National Novel Writing Month aka NaNoWriMo aka pure craziness! Most of you know what NaNoWriMo is, the goal is to write 50,000 words in a month, the side quest is maintaining any semblance of sanity.

I participated in NaNoWriMo last year (and won!) which resulted in my blogging ceasing to exist for the most part. Unfortunately, that is the case again, at least in terms of blogging. Now, last year in order to (kinda) make it up to you a little I posted daily updates on my progress. However, I know some readers don’t participate, or truly care about, NaNo so I don’t want to flood your inbox if that is you. So! If you would like me to try and give updates on how I’m doing I am more than happy to do that, just leave me a comment. Alternatively, just follow me on Twitter (@1FantasyFanatic) where I talk about what’s going on with my WIPs (yes plural) relatively often. I appreciate those of you who stick around until I can come back in full force in December. There will still (hopefully) be the occasional post, but I’m not making any promises. Thanks as always for reading, and if you are taking part in NaNo feel free to let me know your username so we can be writing buddies! ^.^

NaNoWriMo: Day 13

NaNoWriMo Day 13

Well that was good timing! I won today (woohoo!) and then found out that I got a job. So right when I won’t have nearly as much time to write…I don’t need to. I still will try to write more, maybe hitting 75,000 instead of the 100,000 I had briefly considered. We shall see. It was a great feeling when I was able to type in a number over 50,000 into my word count, especially with this being my first year trying it. If I, as a newbie, could pull this off in 13 days then everyone else definitely can do it in 30! You got this! (insert other motivational phrases here)

Now that I have completed the 50,000 word goal I’m not sure if I really should do daily posts anymore. I’d ask for feedback but lately when I’ve tried that it hasn’t really worked (small following will do that to you not that I deserve a large one just because). So I think what I will go with is updates when I’ve actually written. With work now I won’t have nearly as much time to do all of my usual stuff as it is, let alone the extra daily posts, and you don’t need me babbling on a zero day anyway. 😛

**Sidenote I’m adding, I won’t be doing a Waiting On Wednesday this week. I have to go to work to start my training at 7:20am so ya, not happening. Hopefully you forgive me.

How is your NaNoWriMo going so far? Are you still having fun and enjoying writing? Have you been participating in any word wars, sprints, 1k1hrs or hangouts yet? Let me know in the comments if you’d like! Good luck! Thanks for being so supportive as well, I really appreciate it.

NaNoWriMo: Day 12

NaNoWriMo Day 12

I’m so close. o.o Like…tomorrow, it’s possible I could be done. So freaking psyched, anyway, before I get all rambletastic let me give a quick recap of my day 12. I wasn’t sure that I was going to write today at all but then I saw one of my favorite NaNoWordSprinters was hosting and I seized the opportunity. I wrote for about 1.8 hours and completed ~4,200 words. I thought that I might stop there for the day because I had passed 45,000 words total which was a great milestone. Then at about 9:50pm or so I felt the itch to write a bit more for two reasons. First, I wanted to pass 5,000 words on the day because it would be only the fourth time doing so and just because it is a nice number to do in a day. For those of you who don’t know I am on my second piece, the first is all but completed at 37,050 words. So the second piece was close to 10,000 words which is another barrier I wanted to push past. I somehow managed to do both in about 45 minutes or so.

Weeeeeee! I like how the second piece is flowing. I’m doing a back and forth between flashback and present day with my MC/MMC (main character/male main character) which is working very nicely so far. After a couple more chapters of that I will be introducing my MC2 or FMC (female main character) and then I can continue the bouncing back and forth that my novel is using but in this case it will be between POV (point of view) instead of the flashbacks. The plot is working itself rather nicely and this piece, unlike the first one, could be novel length instead of novella. I could easily see this getting to be 100,000+ words, though obviously it is HIGHLY unlikely that I will complete it in this NaNoWriMo with the time remaining. I can’t wait for tomorrow, it’s going to be awesome to win my first attempt at NaNoWriMo and so quickly! ^.^

NaNoWriMo: Day 11

NaNoWriMo Day 11

This was another day off for me. I know that may seem weird when I was so jazzed yesterday but I don’t feel that need to write every single day, and I won’t do it just to hit a word count on any given day. I really didn’t have writing on the mind at all until I was writing this post. I watched football, helped my mom with some work she needed to get done and read some more. It was relaxing and I didn’t feel guilty for ignoring NaNoWriMo whatsoever. Maybe I will write tomorrow, maybe not, but if I do it will be because that desire has been rekindled and not because I see others doing so. I write for me. ^.^

NaNoWriMo: Day 10

NaNoWriMo Day 10

Well today was certainly a turnaround in productivity! I saw that there were sprints going on Twitter and I decided that I would use them as a motivational tool to get me back in the groove, at least so that I could try and hit my word count for the day. I hadn’t done that since Day 6! Well needless to say I went way past the 1,667 words I needed for the day.

I found some more things I could work into my first piece by doing some research and so I added a couple thousand words to that. Then I started working on my second piece for the first time in what seemed like ages (though that was probably day 6 too). Let me tell you, I don’t know what got me going in such a good place but I started churning out words like it was nothing! I ended up getting that piece from where it had been stuck at 1,717 to 4,517 by the end of my writing sessions. I’m thrilled with where the story is going and how the pacing is so far, even the actual words are good, very little suck whatsoever and if you are doing or have done NaNoWriMo then you know they often have a very high level of suck. All in all I was very happy and getting all those words out felt awesome. ^.^

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

NaNoWriMo kicked into full gear this week so that kept me quite busy, or at least it would have had I kept on my daily word count schedule. You can check them out if you can’t get the gist from the short description or just want to read what happened on any given day. This week it will continue and based on my pace I should have no problem “winning” (hitting the 50,000 word mark) sometime during it. To find out where I currently am at and a bit about my most recent day click on the link for today’s post (Day 10).

I did manage to get one review in since The Infects consumed one of my days the week prior. I generally try to keep my reviews to books that have recently come out if at all possible so that they appeal to potential readers. I can do that with this week’s review (I only guarantee one a week since NaNoWriMo takes up so much time) or I can do an older one (think 2011 not 2003). So I will leave it up to anyone who would like to comment leaving their pick for what review I do on Thursday. I will accept feedback both today and Monday.

The Choices:      Outpost by Ann Aguirre

                           Ascension by Sable Grace

                           Sweet Sofie by Elizabeth Reyes

Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride

                           Lancaster House by Taylor Dean

                           Crewel by Gennifer Albin

                           Lucid by Adrienne Stoltz

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

                           Crank by Ellen Hopkins

Kiss of Steel by Bec McMaster

I am really looking for feedback on what book you want reviewed so that you all will hopefully be as interested in reading the review as possible. ^.^ Thanks for stopping by, feel free to leave a link to your Sunday Post or whatever other bookish meme you partake in over the weekend and I will be sure to stop by! Enjoy your Sunday. 🙂

NaNoWriMo: Day 9

NaNoWriMo Day 9

So a quick recap of another day of zeroness. Get up earlier than I like (7:30AM) so I can get ready for my interview. Take tums to keep my stomach calm from my anxiety and Benadryl for my allergies/cold that I know will come. Walk 1.2 miles in 40 degree Fahrenheit weather to the place. Interview lasts all of fifteen minutes but goes relatively well, proceed to walk all the way back. Incur blister on left heel from shoes that aren’t meant for walking long distances.  Take Benadryl-induced three-hour nap. Watch a lot of YouTube videos. Call my grandma and talk for a while. Talk to my mom for a couple hours. Watch more YouTube videos. Get all of the pictures and links together and create my Stacking the Shelves post for the week. Write this.

I’ve come to peace with the fact that I won’t write every day anymore, I’m not really going to try to. I was writing just for the word count and I wasn’t enjoying it as much. I have a big cushion and I’m going to use it so that I can enjoy it when I do write. I’ll complete the 50,000 don’t worry. I hope all of you are having a great NaNoWriMo, keep writing whether you hit word counts or not and remember to have fun! Don’t get bogged down in the numbers, just try to write when you feel inspired or if you can’t get that inspiration naturally try talking with other NaNoWriMo peoples, it’ll help I swear! See you tomorrow where I may or may not have written anything. 😛
