Fraterfest Wrap Up
Fraterfest Wrap Up
Fraterfest Read-A-Thon is a fun way for bloggers to attack their TBR piles, specifically the books that contain “things that go bump in the night” (think vampires, zombies, werewolves, shapeshifters, ghosts, etc.) and is hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Hey everybody! I hope you enjoyed Fraterfest as much as I did and that all of your reading goals were met, surpassed, or destroyed by all of the reading you got done! ^.^ I had a lot of fun reading some twisted books, one with some naughty vampires, and even a MG! I managed to finish a total of six books despite having two days of not reading and they are:
Cursed by Jeremy C. Shipp
Outpost by Ann Aguirre
Asylum by Madeleine Roux
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Doll Bones by Holly Black
Club Midnight by Leigh Wilder
One of the best things about the readathon was that I enjoyed all of the books I read, which might be more luck than anything. My favorite read was Doll Bones by Holly Black, a middle grade read, and something that is normally not in my range of go-to books. Reviews for all of these will be posted in the coming weeks. I didn’t participate in any of the challenges and I missed the Twitter chat due to homework, but overall I had a lot of fun and a book/day is pretty good.
How did your Fraterfest go? Did you meet the goals you set? If you didn’t are you satisfied with how much you did manage to read? Let me know, and thanks as always for reading! ^.^
Totally Random Tuesday: The I’m Not Abandoning You Edition
Totally Random Tuesday
If you have been following the blog recently you may have noticed that there wasn’t a post on Sunday or Monday, for this I apologize. School caught up and I was sick for the last week with a mixture of stomach, nose, and headache issues. Yesterday was the first day I managed to leave the house so obviously it wasn’t a funfest. However, I do have today as the last day of the wonderful Fraterfest readathon and I plan to read at least one more book, possibly two. I also have the next two days free of college stuff AND my favorite readathon of the year, at least for 24hr ones, Dewey’s readathon is SATURDAY!!! I’m incredibly excited because Dewey’s is always amazing, a ton of fun, and I have that day free as well so I’m all in on the 24hr book/twitter/challenge/awesomeness.
What does that rambling all mean? I’m stockpiling reviews, huzzah! I currently have six books read and waiting to be reviewed plus between now and the end of Dewey’s I should have that number into double digits which would be awesomesauce and amazeballs and all of the other goofy combo words we use now. So here’s the deal for this week. There will not be a YA Wednesday tomorrow, but there WILL be a wrapup post for Fraterfest to make up for that! There WILL be a Frodo’s Frisky Friday AND I’m doing another giant book haul Sunday Post to recap all of the amazing things I’ve received in the past ~3weeks, so hopefully that gets you a bit excited! Thanks as always for reading and I’m off to do some reading of my own! See you tomorrow! ^.^

Fraterfest: My Thoughts & Results
Fraterfest: My Thoughts & Results
Fraterfest Read-A-Thon was a fun way for bloggers to attack their TBR piles, specifically the books that contain “things that go bump in the night” (think vampires, zombies, werewolves, shapeshifters, ghosts, etc.) and was hosted by the amazing Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Results:
Challenges Completed – 7/7
Books Read – Attic Clowns: Volumes 1 & 2 (Also did a mini-review here)
– Attic Clowns: Volume 4
– Here Be Monsters
– Aberrations: Horror Stories
– Zombified
Participated In – #Fraterfest Twitter Party (I won some awesome swag there too ^.^) & Fraterfest Raffle
My Thoughts:
I had a blast participating in Fraterfest from Friday – Monday! I will say that I didn’t get to attack as much of my TBR pile as I had planned to because I took a couple unexpected trips into the cities (Minneapolis/St.Paul) due to Half Price Books having their yearly mega sale (everything 3$ and under, I’ll be doing a separate post on this and my ridiculous haul so look for that in the coming week or so). I do plan on (hopefully) getting to read Pretty When She Dies by Rhiannon Frater tonight/tomorrow so that I can really embrace the “Frater” part of the fest. ^.^
The challenges were really fun, although some of them made my brain hurt, and I know that the other participants enjoyed them too! My favorite part about Fraterfest, though, was the twitter party! I was still on the road coming back (not driving btw) and so I could only participate via phone but it was still really fun. I got to meet a bunch of new bookish people on twitter (and gain some great new followers) and even won the swag! I can’t wait to see what that will be. We even had a somewhat funny ending as our host had reached her daily tweet limit right as she was about to thank everyone for participating (at the very end) which seemed to fit in with all of the goofiness involved.
I would absolutely take part in something like this again, especially if it is hosted by the lovely Kimba! I plan to join more “fests” like this from other blogs I follow in the future though I don’t know which ones at the moment, this one kind of just sprung up on me.
As far as the books goes I loved having an excuse to just attack a portion (albeit a small one) of my TBR pile! I got to read some fun and freaky stories, my favorites being the Attic Clowns books by Jeremy C. Shipp, and I will be reading Pretty When She Dies as I mentioned earlier so that will be great. Any reasoning to be able to read more is good in my book (see what I did there? :p).
As always thank you so much for reading and I hope you participated in Fraterfest at some level, and if not that you at least read some cool books over the weekend. =D If you would like to subscribe you can do so via the usual methods, I do appreciate it, oh and comment! I read them all you know. ^.^ Have a great week!
Stacking The Shelves #4
Stacking The Shelves
A quick reminder that Stacking The Shelves is a wonderful way that we can share books we’ve won, bought, or been gifted in either printed or eBook form. It is a weekly meme created by Tynga’s Reviews that is generally posted on Saturdays.
This week I again have a plethora of books to share! Most of these are the eBook variety, but I’m pretty excited to read them all (if I ever find the time).

Yet again it has been a very good week for my book haul. ^.^ A big part of the freebie section was obviously Jeremy C. Shipp’s books so a big shout out and thank you go out to him for putting them for free the last week. Even though I did technically buy Dark Light of Day by Jill Archer it was done so with a 10$ Amazon gift card so it was basically free which is always awesome and it arrived yesterday just in time to add it to this post!
Now to break down all of the giveaway wins, oh boy. Laiden’s Daughter was from the Highlander Giveaway Hop and though that isn’t my usual genre by any means I thought it would be a good opportunity to expand my book tastes so I’ll give it a shot soonish. I won Janus courtesy of Suzanne Johnson over at Preternatura, she does a crazy number of giveaways each week and I finally won one from there, I can’t wait to dive into it! The Selkie Spell was from The (Mis)Adventures of a Twenty-Something Year Old Girl blog and I’m looking forward to trying that one out too. Both books by Rhiannon Frater were won thanks to a giveaway by Book Loving Mom and I’ll be reading those in the next few days thanks to being part of Fraterfest, those had scary good timing. o.o The Last Degree was won from a giveaway on Full Moon Bites Book Blog, I’ll be expanding my reading horizons with this one too. Finally, The Red Serpent Trilogy was won from one of my favorite blogs, Reading and Writing Urban Fantasy and I’ll be doing a review of that one either this week or the next.
I also got an ARC eBook of The Reanimation of Edward Schuett thanks to Derek J. Goodman in exchange for an honest review which I’ll be doing this coming week sometime. That was possible thanks to twitter, if you follow enough awesome bookish people stuff like that will just fall in your lap! ^.^
As you can see I’ve got a ton of books to read from this week, and a few of those which I’ll be reviewing. The horror ones I either have or will be reading almost all of during the next few days while I participate in Fraterfest so that will be pretty fun combing through that part of my TBR pile. That’s all from me for now, look for my Sunday Post tomorrow with next week’s schedule and a recap of what I did this week, and if you would like to please check out my other posts including my last review and the challenges I am participating in this weekend for Fraterfest! You can also follow me via the usual methods if you like what you see so you don’t miss any cool posts. As always thanks for reading and let me know what you got in the comments, I read every one! Enjoy your weekend! 🙂

Reading List
Attic Clowns: Volumes One & Two < Read and mini-review is up!
Attic Clowns: Volume Four < Read
Here Be Monsters < Read
Aberrations: Horror Stories < Read
Zombified < Read
Blood Singers
The Wicked
I was fortunate enough to win eBook copies of Rhiannon Frater’s Pretty When She Dies & Pretty When She Kills right before Fraterfest started. However, though I would like to put them on this list I have not actually been sent them yet. What I will say is if I do receive them before Fraterfest ends I will insert them either into the list if I have time leftover, or in place of either Blood Singers or The Wicked. That’s all from me for now but I will post updates as I go! Happy reading! ^.^
*Update* Early this morning guess what popped into my inbox? That’s right! I received my eBooks of Pretty When She Dies & Pretty When She Kills! I will be replacing Blood Singers and The Wicked with these two titles and IF I have time I will still read Blood Singers and The Wicked but they are now lower priority. 🙂

If you want to participate you can click on the link above to learn more, if you’d rather not or you don’t have a blog you can participate on twitter by using the hashtag #FraterFest! There are going to be prizes over on Kimba’s blog for read-a-thon participants. In order to qualify as one you must post your goals and results and participate in a minimum of one challenge. You don’t have to have a blog for this, you can participate via Facebook , google+, goodreads, or a personal blog. The more detailed and up-to-date schedule will be released over on Kimba’s blog on the 5th but feel free to join up before then!
As for what I am going to do it will depend on what Kimba posts of course but I do plan on reading a few select books that fit rather well in this genre. I mentioned on my Sunday Post that I would be doing a review of Attic Clowns:Volume Two (I may add Volume One as I just got that for free today) and those fit in perfectly! I have a few more that I am considering which include the very popular freebie Sweet Venom, Here Be Monsters, Aberrations: Horror Stories, Zombified, Blood Singers, The Wicked and/or Monsters (The Bloodless). By the way Attic Clowns Volume One & Two are both free as are Sweet Venom, Here Be Monsters (today only!), Aberrations (today only!), and Zombified. Blood Singers is a dollar and The Wicked & Monsters (The Bloodless) are the standard 3$ if you wanted to purchase any of them!
I hope you will join me in Fraterfest and we can dive into some horror wonderment together! Until next time, thanks for reading, and leave comments! I read every one even if I don’t respond often and I do appreciate them!
