Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Love and Other Theories by Alexis Bass

Set For Release On: December 31st, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsLove and Other Theories

If you want more, you have to give less.

That’s the secret to dating in high school. By giving as little as they expect to get in return, seventeen-year-old Aubrey Housing and her three best friends have made it to the second semester of their senior year heartbreak-free. And it’s all thanks to a few simple rules: don’t commit, don’t be needy, and don’t give away your heart.

So when smoking-hot Nathan Diggs transfers to Lincoln High, it shouldn’t be a big deal. At least that’s what Aubrey tells herself. But Nathan’s new-boy charm, his kindness, and his disarming honesty throw Aubrey off her game and put her in danger of breaking the most important rule of all: Don’t fall in love.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I heard about Love and Other Theories from the amazing Nikki at Fiction Freak, and because I completely trust her judgement, I know it’ll be good because she really enjoyed it. I also enjoy YA contemporary quite a bit, so this will be a nice easy read, and probably a pretty light and fluffy one too. I was warned about the feels though, so I will be keeping that in mind.

The cover is also pretty solid, I can imagine it would look nice on one of my shelves, and it certainly is eye-catching. Had you heard of Love and Other Theories or of the author, Alexis Bass? If you had, are you planning on getting it too? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #30

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Playlist for the Dead by Michelle Falkoff

Set For Release On: January 27th, 2015

Summary From GoodreadsPlaylist for the Dead

A teenage boy tries to understand his best friend’s suicide by listening to the playlist of songs he left behind in this smart, voice-driven debut novel.

Here’s what Sam knows: There was a party. There was a fight. The next morning, his best friend, Hayden, was dead. And all he left Sam was a playlist of songs, and a suicide note: For Sam—listen and you’ll understand.

As he listens to song after song, Sam tries to face up to what happened the night Hayden killed himself. But it’s only by taking out his earbuds and opening his eyes to the people around him that he will finally be able to piece together his best friend’s story. And maybe have a chance to change his own.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

My first thought when I came across this book was that the cover made me excited to read it, simply because I love listening to music, and it seemed like the book might cover musical discussions, like how a specific song/artist might make a person feel. So that was certainly enough to get me to use it as a WoW post on its own.

Then I read the summary and immediately was reminded of one of my favorite books, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Both books have the MC listen to something (tapes or a playlist), both go over the difficult topic of suicide, and each book makes the MC take a second look at their surroundings and the people they thought they knew. I’m certainly intrigued to see how they compare and contrast.

Have you heard of Playlist for the Dead, or the Michelle Falkoff? If you have, are you planning on getting it too? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #28

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Set For Release On: March 26th, 2015

Summary From GoodreadsRed Queen

Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood—those with red and those with silver. Mare and her family are lowly Reds, destined to serve the Silver elite whose supernatural abilities make them nearly gods. Mare steals what she can to help her family survive, but when her best friend is conscripted into the army she gambles everything to win his freedom. A twist of fate leads her to the royal palace itself, where, in front of the king and all his nobles, she discovers a power of her own—an ability she didn’t know she had. Except . . . her blood is Red.

To hide this impossibility, the king forces her into the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks her new position to aid the Scarlet Guard—the leaders of a Red rebellion. Her actions put into motion a deadly and violent dance, pitting prince against prince—and Mare against her own heart.

From debut author Victoria Aveyard comes a lush, vivid fantasy series where loyalty and desire can tear you apart and the only certainty is betrayal.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

While I’m sure many of you have heard of Red Queen already, especially since it was released as an ARC on Edelweiss, but I had to pick it for WoW. That cover is pretty great, though initially it looked kind of like jelly or syrup dripping instead of blood, but the crown is awesome for sure. Then I saw that Nikki at Fiction Freak, who is awesome by the way, gave it five stars and was freaking out quite a bit about it.

I’ll definitely be picking this up when it comes out in March, if only it weren’t so far away! The premise sounds really cool, I can’t wait to see what abilities are showcased by Mare and the rest of the characters, and I certainly could use another great fantasy read.

Had you heard of this one before, and if not does it sound like something you’d enjoy? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #27

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons

Set For Release On: February 10th, 2015

Summary From GoodreadsThe Glass Arrow

The Handmaid’s Tale meets Blood Red Road in Glass Arrow, the story of Aya, who lives with a small group of women on the run from the men who hunt them, men who want to auction off breeding rights to the highest bidder.

In a world where females are scarce and are hunted, then bought and sold at market for their breeding rights, 15-year old Aya has learned how to hide. With a ragtag bunch of other women and girls, she has successfully avoided capture and eked out a nomadic but free existence in the mountains.

But when Aya’s luck runs out and she’s caught by a group of businessmen on a hunting expedition, fighting to survive takes on a whole new meaning.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I absolutely loved the Article 5 trilogy by Kristen Simmons, and this sounds like it could be just as good, and possible even a bit more powerful. There are so many ways that Simmons could address the issues for women here that it makes me all the more excited to see what direction she will go. Will they be strong and resilient, will they fight with brawn or brains (or both?), and what will the journey for Aya be like?

Also of note is that she got a pretty amazing cover for The Glass Arrow, so congrats on that! I’m sure this book has made the rounds of Waiting on Wednesday already, as I’m usually late to the party on this, but I can’t help but want to share another Kristen Simmons series in the works!

Had you heard of this one before, and if you hadn’t does the summary intrigue you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Sacrifice by Brigid Kemmerer

Set For Release On: September 30th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsSacrifice

Michael Merrick is used to pressure.

He’s the only parent his three brothers have had for years. His power to control Earth could kill someone if he miscalculates. Now an Elemental Guide has it out for his family, and he’s all that stands in the way.

His girlfriend, Hannah, gets that. She’s got a kid of her own, and a job as a firefighter that could end her life without a moment’s notice.

But there are people who have had enough of Michael’s defiance, his family’s “bad luck.” Before he knows it, Michael’s enemies have turned into the Merricks’ enemies, and they’re armed for war.

They’re not interested in surrender. But Michael isn’t the white flag type anyway. There will be blood on the ground tonight…

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’m sure some of you are aware of Sacrifice already, but it is finally starting to get close to its release and I can’t wait! I’ve really enjoyed The Elemental Series so far and I’m sure seeing things from Michael’s perspective will be just as interesting and fun as it has been with the other brothers. I own the other four books in the series and this will find its way to my shelves I’m sure!

Had you heard of this one before, or read the other books in the series, and if not does it sound like something you’d enjoy? What book are you “Waiting On”? Waiting on Wednesday #25

Liars, Inc. by Paula Stokes

Set For Release On: March 24th, 2015

Summary From GoodreadsLiars

It all starts with one little lie…

Max Cantrell has never been a big fan of the truth, so when the opportunity arises to sell lies to his classmates, it sounds like a good way to make a little money and liven up a boring senior year. With the help of his friends Preston and Parvati, Max starts a business providing forged permission slips and cover stories for the students of Vista Palisades High. Liars, Inc. they call it. Suddenly everybody needs something and the cash starts pouring in. Who knew lying could be so lucrative?

When Preston wants his own cover story to go visit a girl he met online, Max doesn’t think twice about hooking him up. Until Preston never comes home. Then the evidence starts to pile up—terrifying clues that lead the cops to Preston’s body. Terrifying clues that point to Max as the murderer.

Can Max find the real killer before he goes to prison for a crime he didn’t commit? Paula Stokes starts with one single white lie and weaves a twisted tale that will have readers guessing until the explosive final chapters.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

It’s been a Paula Stokes kind of time here on the blog the last week or so, and I figured why not keep the trend going with Liars, Inc.?! Paula told me about this one when I went to the Mighty Mississippi Book Blast YA Tour and said I’d likely enjoy it even more than Lainey, so I’m sold!

Liars, Inc. is a long way off, not coming out until late March of next year, but it’ll definitely be a pre-order of mine. Had you heard of this one before, and if you hadn’t does the summary intrigue you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Waiting on Wednesday #24

Maplecroft by Cherie Priest

Set For Release On: September 2nd, 2014

Summary From Goodreads

Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks; and when she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one….

The people of Fall River, Massachusetts, fear me. Perhaps rightfully so. I remain a suspect in the brutal deaths of my father and his second wife despite the verdict of innocence at my trial. With our inheritance, my sister, Emma, and I have taken up residence in Maplecroft, a mansion near the sea and far from gossip and scrutiny.

But it is not far enough from the affliction that possessed my parents. Their characters, their very souls, were consumed from within by something that left malevolent entities in their place. It originates from the ocean’s depths, plaguing the populace with tides of nightmares and madness.

This evil cannot hide from me. No matter what guise it assumes, I will be waiting for it. With an axe.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

As usual I was alerted to this title thanks to Cover Snark, a feature on A Reader of Fictions that I adore, and had to make it this WoW! Look at the prettiness that is this cover!!! There is elegance mixed with brutality, refinement combined with savagery, it’s beautiful! *stares* O_O

*still staring* O_O Seriously though, the cover is amazing, and on top of it the premise sounds awesome. What forms will this “evil” take? How many cool battles will ensue? Whatever will she wear as she attempts to slay it?! So many questions!

Mortal Gods by Kendare Blake

Set For Release On: September 1st, 2014 Mortal Gods

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

No, I didn’t forget the summary this time, it just hasn’t been released yet. Regardless, as soon as I saw the cover, as well as just the fact that I freaking LOVED Antigoddess, was too much not to feature Mortal Gods. I can’t wait!!! All of the squeeeeeees! The cover is pretty cool as well with a similar vibe, but much different look than the first book. That probably didn’t make sense…but oh well.

I am looking forward to when the summary is released so that my excitement level can kick up a few more notches! I’m sure this will be just as amazing as Antigoddess, with an incredible world, brilliant characters, and Blake refusing to pull any punches. Weeee!

Waiting on Wednesday #22

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Rain by Amanda Sun

Set For Release On: June 24th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsRain

American Katie Green has decided to stay in Japan. She’s started to build a life in the city of Shizuoka, and she can’t imagine leaving behind her friends, her aunt and especially Tomohiro, the guy she’s fallen in love with. But her return is not as simple as she thought. She’s flunking out of Japanese school and committing cultural faux pas wherever she goes. Tomohiro is also struggling—as a Kami, his connection to the ancient gods of Japan and his power to bring drawings to life have begun to spiral out of control.

When Tomo decides to stop drawing, the ink finds other ways to seep into his life—blackouts, threatening messages and the appearance of unexplained sketches. Unsure how to help Tomo, Katie turns to an unexpected source for help—Jun, her former friend and a Kami with an agenda of his own. But is Jun really the ally he claims to be? In order to save themselves, Katie and Tomohiro must unravel the truth about Tomo’s dark ancestry, as well as Katie’s, and confront one of the darkest gods in Japanese legend.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’ll admit, I still haven’t read Ink even though it has been sitting in my TBR stacks since shortly after its release. However, I really liked the premise of it, the cover is awesome, and the setting is excellent. So I have high hopes for Ink and therefore am excited for Rain which comes out this summer.

The downside here is that Rain’s cover isn’t nearly as good as Ink’s. The guy’s face is alright though I’m not sure why he’s so pissed off, but the girl’s is just off. Her right eye doesn’t look natural at all, like it was put too far in. I don’t know. Regardless I want to read this as well as Ink and see if the execution can match up to the potential of the premise.

Waiting on Wednesday #21

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

The Fall by Bethany Griffin

Set For Release On: October 7th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsThe Fall

Madeline Usher is doomed.

She has spent her life fighting fate, and she thought she was succeeding. Until she woke up in a coffin.

Ushers die young. Ushers are cursed. Ushers can never leave their house, a house that haunts and is haunted, a house that almost seems to have a mind of its own. Madeline’s life—revealed through short bursts of memory—has hinged around her desperate plan to escape, to save herself and her brother. Her only chance lies in destroying the house.

In the end, can Madeline keep her own sanity and bring the house down? The Fall is a literary psychological thriller, reimagining Edgar Allan Poe’s classic The Fall of the House of Usher.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Read that last bit again. A reimagining of something Edgar Allan Poe wrote? Do you need any other reason to check this out? I don’t. However, the cover really does it for me too, though the font isn’t as somber as the rest of it which is a little distracting.

The main character is going to be starting in a coffin, how is that not incredibly intriguing? I can’t wait to discover what is going on in this world, how she plans to escape and rescue her brother, and what the heck is going on with this darker version of a “smart” house.

This is going to be a perfect October read, one I’ll likely save for Halloween unless I somehow get an early copy of it. What book are you “Waiting On”? For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

In a Handful of Dust by Mindy McGinnis

Set For Release On: September 23rd, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsIn a Handful of Dust

The only thing bigger than the world is fear.

Lucy’s life by the pond has always been full. She has water and friends, laughter and the love of her adoptive mother, Lynn, who has made sure that Lucy’s childhood was very different from her own. Yet it seems Lucy’s future is settled already—a house, a man, children, and a water source—and anything beyond their life by the pond is beyond reach.

When disease burns through their community, the once life-saving water of the pond might be the source of what’s killing them now. Rumors of desalinization plants in California have lingered in Lynn’s mind, and the prospect of a “normal” life for Lucy sets the two of them on an epic journey west to face new dangers: hunger, mountains, deserts, betrayal, and the perils of a world so vast that Lucy fears she could be lost forever, only to disappear in a handful of dust.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I know this is going to be a really popular pick this week because OH MY GOODNESS LOOK AT THAT COVER!!!! O_O *stares*

Seriously though, so freaking pretty, worth a buy just to have it on my shelves, and goodness do I want that book! I really enjoyed Not a Drop to Drink and IaHoD is going to tell the story from Lucy’s perspective which is AWESOME! This is a great dystopian series (at least based on book 1), I know McGinnis is going to do more wonders with this one, oh, and did you see the summary? ROAD TRIP!!! Yes please, thank you, can I have it now? o_o

Can’t wait for this book, it is really far off…but I’ll make do somehow. What are your thoughts on IaHoD’s cover? Have you read Not a Drop to Drink, and if so are you excited for book 2 or is this not the series for you? What book are you “Waiting On”? For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

The Invisible by Amelia Kahaney

Set For Release On: October 7th, 2014

The Invisible

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

Nope, I did not forget to include the summary for the book like I usually do, but nice job spotting the absence of one! I haven’t found a summary for the book anywhere (I checked the author’s websites, Amazon, and Goodreads), but what we do know is that this is the sequel to The Brokenhearted. That’s pretty much all I need to know to want the book since there is so much potential in this series.

I chose this book now, despite not having a summary, because the cover was just released and I do like it quite a bit. It’s pretty much the opposite of The Brokenhearted, being all shiny and bright and hopeful (even though the city below does look grim), but the feel is still there somewhat. Right now I just want it in my hands so I can continue the story, have that cover somewhere on my shelves, and October seems so far away!

What are your thoughts on The Invisible’s cover? Have you read The Brokenhearted, and if so are you excited for book 2 or is this not the series for you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Gilded by Christina L. Farley

Set For Release On: March 1st, 2014

Summary From Goodreads

Sixteen-year-old Jae Hwa Lee is a Korean-American girl with a black belt, a deadly proclivity with steel-tipped arrows, and a chip on her shoulder the size of Korea itself. When her widowed dad uproots her to Seoul from her home in L.A., Jae thinks her biggest challenges will be fitting in to a new school and dealing with her dismissive Korean grandfather. Then she discovers that a Korean demi-god, Haemosu, has been stealing the soul of the oldest daughter of each generation in her family for centuries. And she’s next.

But that’s not Jae’s only problem.

There’s also Marc. Irresistible and charming, Marc threatens to break the barriers around Jae’s heart. As the two grow closer, Jae must decide if she can trust him. But Marc has a secret of his own—one that could help Jae overturn the curse on her family for good. It turns out that Jae’s been wrong about a lot of things: her grandfather is her greatest ally, even the tough girl can fall in love, and Korea might just be the home she’s always been looking for.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’m sure plenty of you have seen this book around on other WoW posts or anything connected to 2014 debut authors, but I HAD to pick it. Why? Look at that freaking amazing cover! *ogles it* O_O

Seriously though, the book sounds like it has tons of potential and there aren’t enough books set in Korea that are YA, so yes please! Plus, a bad-ass black-belted, arrow shooting, demi-god fighting female MC? Done. Sold. I can’t wait for this book, it looks fantastic, and as long as that romance is done well *fingers crossed* then I’m sure to love it. ^.^

Does Gilded sound like a book you would enjoy? Have you heard of it before, and what do you think about the premise? What book are you “Waiting On”? In the Forest of the Dead, where the empire’s worst criminals are exiled, twin sisters Moria and Ashyn are charged with a dangerous task. For they are the Keeper and the Seeker, and each year they must quiet the enraged souls of the damned.

Accompanied by a stubborn imperial guard and a dashing condemned thief, the girls cross a once-empty wasteland, now filled with reawakened monsters of legend, as they travel to warn the emperor. But a terrible secret awaits them at court—one that will alter the balance of their world forever.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

This is another book that I hadn’t heard of until the Cover Snark feature that Christina at A Reader of Fictions does, and I am so glad I did! First off, I’ll be trying to get the UK cover which is the one shown above, because I would love to have that on my shelves. Secondly, emperors always make me think Asia, specifically Japan, and while this is Fantasy and likely set in a completely different world, I’m still excited by the possibilities of that type of culture being infused with the fantastic. Thirdly, and finally, while there are a decent number of books about twin sisters, not many are done in this kind of setting/genre/storyline and I really am looking forward to seeing how that dynamic works.

Does Sea of Shadows appeal to you? What do you think the setting will be like? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Summary From GoodreadsIllusive by Emily Lloyd-Jones

The lines between good and bad, us and them, and freedom and entrapment are blurred as Ciere and the rest of her crew become embroiled in a deadly race against he government that could cost them their lives.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I need more superhero books in my life, and Illusive sounds fantastic, so I’m hoping it can fill that void. However, it isn’t released until the summer of next year so I’ve got a LONG time to wait! *flails* This is a debut novel for Emily Lloyd-Jones, but I have high hopes for it and its definitely one of my most anticipated debuts for 2014. Plus, female shapeshifter MC? Sign me up!

Does Illusive appeal to you? Had you heard of it before (since it is a debut)? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

The Unbound (The Archived #2) by Victoria Schwab

Set For Release On: January 28th, 2014

Summary From Goodreads

Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Last summer, Mackenzie Bishop, a Keeper tasked with stopping violent Histories from escaping the Archive, almost lost her life to one. Now, as she starts her junior year at Hyde School, she’s struggling to get her life back. But moving on isn’t easy — not when her dreams are haunted by what happened. She knows the past is past, knows it cannot hurt her, but it feels so real, and when her nightmares begin to creep into her waking hours, she starts to wonder if she’s really safe.

Meanwhile, people are vanishing without a trace, and the only thing they seem to have in common is Mackenzie. She’s sure the Archive knows more than they are letting on, but before she can prove it, she becomes the prime suspect. And unless Mac can track down the real culprit, she’ll lose everything, not only her role as Keeper, but her memories, and even her life. Can Mackenzie untangle the mystery before she herself unravels?

With stunning prose and a captivating mixture of action, romance, and horror, The Unbound delves into a richly imagined world where no choice is easy and love and loss feel like two sides of the same coin.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’ve mentioned The Unbound quite a bit lately including yesterday’s Top Ten Tuesday as one of my most anticipated winter reads. I really enjoyed The Archived and I’m so excited to read The Unbound when it comes out on the 28th of January! I plan to review it the day of so if you want a fresh opinion on it feel free to stop by that day. ^.^ Victoria Schwab is amazing, both as an author and, of course, as a person, and I love how much recognition she got for Vicious. I urge people to check out The Archived if you haven’t already and you’ll have plenty of time before The Unbound comes out to get as excited as I am!

Does The Unbound appeal to you? Are you as excited as I am for it? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Unhinged (Splintered #2) by A.G. Howard

Set For Release On: January 7th, 2014

Summary From GoodreadsUnhinged by A.G. Howard

Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the guy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly seductive Morpheus and the vindictive Queen Red. Now all she has to do is graduate high school and make it through prom so she can attend the prestigious art school in London she’s always dreamed of.

That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.

As prom and graduation creep closer, Alyssa juggles Morpheus’s unsettling presence in her real world with trying to tell Jeb the truth about a past he’s forgotten. Glimpses of Wonderland start to bleed through her art and into her world in very disturbing ways, and Morpheus warns that Queen Red won’t be far behind.

If Alyssa stays in the human realm, she could endanger Jeb, her parents, and everyone she loves. But if she steps through the rabbit hole again, she’ll face a deadly battle that could cost more than just her head.

Just about every book blogger I know is either incredibly excited for this to come out and likely has it on pre-order or their holiday gift list, or has read the ARC of it and is raving about its awesomeness. I am in the first group and can’t wait for it to arrive on release day, which is only about a month away! If I could I’d make time go faster just so I could get this book. Splintered is in my top 5 books that I read in 2013, and I expect Unhinged to quickly become, and stay, in my top 5 for 2014.

Does Unhinged appeal to you? Are you as excited as I (and seemingly the rest of the bookish blogosphere) am for it? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #10

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

The Falconer (The Falconer #1) by Elizabeth May

Set For Release On: September 19, 2013

Summary From Goodreads

18-year-old Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, was destined to a life carefully planned around Edinburgh’s social events – right up until a faery kills her mother.

Now it’s the 1844 winter season. Between a seeming endless number of parties, Aileana slaughters faeries in secret. Armed with modified percussion pistols and explosives, every night she sheds her aristocratic facade and goes hunting. She’s determined to track down the faery who murdered her mother, and to destroy any who prey on humans in the city’s many dark alleyways.

But she never even considered that she might become attracted to one. To the magnetic Kiaran MacKay, the faery who trained her to kill his own kind. Nor is she at all prepared for the revelation he’s going to bring. Because Midwinter is approaching, and with it an eclipse that has the ability to unlock a Fae prison and begin the Wild Hunt.

A battle looms, and Aileana is going to have to decide how much she’s willing to lose – and just how far she’ll go to avenge her mother’s murder.

How freaking awesome does this sound?! I’m slowly immersing myself in the steampunk genre, as much as I can get my hands on, and this would be a fantastic continued foray into that kind of world. Add the fantastical with faerys and you have quite the story! I do worry about the romance, but my hope is that there is no insta-love and it develops naturally, well…as naturally as a human/faery romance can. Also, how about that cover? Freaking awesome, especially when you pay attention to that gun she is holding, got to love steampunk weapons!

Does The Falconer appeal to you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! ^.^

Waiting on Wednesday #9

Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Breaking The Spine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Insomnia (The Night Walkers #1) by J.R. Johansson

Set For Release On: June 8, 2013

Summary From Goodreads:

It’s been four years since I slept, and I suspect it is killing me.

Instead of sleeping, Parker Chipp enters the dream of the last person he’s had eye contact with. He spends his nights crushed by other people’s fear and pain, by their disturbing secrets—and Parker can never have dreams of his own. The severe exhaustion is crippling him. If nothing changes, Parker could soon be facing psychosis and even death.

Then he meets Mia. Her dreams, calm and beautifully uncomplicated, allow him blissful rest that is utterly addictive. Parker starts going to bizarre lengths to catch Mia’s eye every day. Everyone at school thinks he’s gone over the edge, even his best friend. And when Mia is threatened by a true stalker, everyone thinks it’s Parker.

Suffering blackouts, Parker begins to wonder if he is turning into someone dangerous. What if the monster stalking Mia is him after all?

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Can you believe this is a freaking debut?! When I found out about Insomnia during a twitter chat (as well as a bunch of other fantastic debuts) I had to pre-order it immediately. My initial reaction to the summary was “this seems like the reverse of David Levithan’s Every Day with a darker edge to it, awesome!” so that’s already a step in the right direction don’t you think? Now thinking about it there are some similar elements here to Ethan’s character in The Brightest Kind of Darkness series, so that’s another potential parallel for you. I guess I’ve been reading a bunch of mind-bender type books lately, I can’t wait to read this one too! By the way, I don’t do this in my WoW posts normally, but if you want to pre-order this like I did it is available on Amazon for only $5.55!

Does Insomnia appeal to you? Do you already have it pre-ordered or will you now for that crazy low price? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave a link to your own WoW post and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday! :)

Waiting On Wednesday #6

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

River of Stars by Guy Gavriel Kay

Set For Release On: April, 2013

Summary From Goodreads:

In his critically acclaimed novel Under Heaven, Guy Gavriel Kay told a vivid and powerful story inspired by China’s Tang Dynasty. Now, the international bestselling and multiple award-winning author revisits that invented setting four centuries later with an epic of prideful emperors, battling courtiers, bandits and soldiers, nomadic invasions, and a woman battling in her own way, to find a new place for women in the world – a world inspired this time by the glittering, decadent Song Dynasty.

Ren Daiyan was still just a boy when he took the lives of seven men while guarding an imperial magistrate of Kitai. That moment on a lonely road changed his life—in entirely unexpected ways, sending him into the forests of Kitai among the outlaws. From there he emerges years later—and his life changes again, dramatically, as he circles towards the court and emperor, while war approaches Kitai from the north.

Lin Shan is the daughter of a scholar, his beloved only child. Educated by him in ways young women never are, gifted as a songwriter and calligrapher, she finds herself living a life suspended between two worlds. Her intelligence captivates an emperor—and alienates women at the court. But when her father’s life is endangered by the savage politics of the day, Shan must act in ways no woman ever has.

In an empire divided by bitter factions circling an exquisitely cultured emperor who loves his gardens and his art far more than the burdens of governing, dramatic events on the northern steppe alter the balance of power in the world, leading to events no one could have foretold, under the river of stars.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

I’ll be honest, I’m a sucker when it comes to doing a twist on parts of history and this is no exception. The Song Dynasty? Yes please! A young woman having to overcome obstacles and battle the powers that be? Tell me more! This sounds fascinating to me and I can’t wait for April so that I can read it! ^.^

Waiting On Wednesday #5

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Pretty Dark Nothing by Heather L. Reid

Set For Release On: April, 2013

Summary From Goodreads:

It’s been twenty three days since Quinn has slept for more than minutes at a time. Demons have invaded her dreams, stalking her, and whispering of her death. The lack of sleep and crippling fear are ruining her life. Energy drinks and caffeine pills don’t make a dent. When Quinn dozes off in the school hallway, Aaron, an amnesiac with a psychic ability, accidentally enters her nightmare. The demons are determined to keep them apart, and Aaron from discovering the secret locked away in his memory. Together, they could banish the darkness back to the underworld for good. That is, unless the demons kill them first.

————————————————————————————————————————–

This one caught my eye with the gloomy/creepy cover that they went with. A nice mix of the paranormal with some good creepy vibes is right up my alley. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together. ^.^

Waiting On Wednesday #4

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Fade to Black by Francis Knight

Set For Release On: February 7th, 2013

Summary from Goodreads: Mahala: a city built in the dark depths of a valley. A city built up in layers, not across – where streets are built upon streets, buildings balance precariously upon buildings. A city that the Ministry rules from its lofty perch at the sunlit summit & where the forsaken lurk in the shadowy depths of the Pit.

Rojan is a bounty hunter trying to make his way in the city. Everyone knows he’s a womaniser, a shirker of all responsibility, but they don’t know he’s also a pain-mage: able to draw magic from his own & other people’s pain. He’s not keen on using it (not least because it’s outlawed), but when his niece is abducted and taken to the dark depths of the Pit, he may just be forced to unleash his power . . .

I am already really excited to see how the world building works out with the way they described the city. Can you even imagine living in a place like that? There are of course a bunch of metaphors that you can see right off with that structuralization type and it will be interesting to see how Knight conveys them.

Does Fade to Black sound interesting to you? What book are you “Waiting On”? Let me know in the comments and/or leave your link and I will make sure to stop by! Thanks for checking out my Waiting On Wednesday post, hopefully you’ll come “hopping” back soon! ^.^

Waiting On Wednesday #3

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

The Racketeer by John Grisham

Set For Release On: October 23rd, 2012

Summary From John Grisham’s Website:

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered.

Judge Raymond Fogletree just became number five.

His body was found in the basement of a lakeside cabin he had built himself and frequently used on weekends. When he did not show up for a trial on Monday morning, his law clerks panicked, called the FBI, and in due course the agents found the crime scene. There was no forced entry, no struggle, just two dead bodies—Judge Fogletree and his young secretary.

I did not know Judge Fogletree, but I know who killed him, and why.

I am a lawyer, and I am in prison.

It’s a long story.

John Grisham has been one of my favorite writers for years now and I can’t wait to read his next book The Racketeer! I’m so happy that I don’t have to wait much longer (it comes out next week, squee!) to dive into it. The summary sounds pretty good don’t you think? I think Grisham is an author that you have to experience if you haven’t already, so many of his books are must reads!

Thank you for stopping by! Feel free to leave a comment on what you think about The Racketeer, John Grisham, or your own Waiting On Wednesday post! ^.^

Waiting On Wednesday #2

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by the fantastic people over at Breaking The Spine that highlights upcoming releases that we are excited about.

For this week my pre-publication selection that I can’t wait for is:

Masquerade by Sarah-Jane Lehoux

Set For Release On: Late October/November 2012

Summary From Sarah-Jane Lehoux’s Website:

Starting over isn’t easy, especially when the world isn’t ready for you to change. Sevy, thief turned assassin turned mercenary, isn’t having any fun adjusting to a normal, law-abiding life. Luckily for her, an old partner in crime arrives with an irresistible proposition: a getaway to a tropical island, an adventure of a lifetime, and an amazing friendship ready to blossom into an even more amazing romance.

Things are looking up for Sevy. That is, until a pack of maniacal fairies with a taste for human flesh arrive on the scene.

Now she must unravel a web of magical intrigue hidden behind the outwardly idyllic atmosphere of the islands of Belakarta. Nothing is as it seems, and no one can be trusted. Trapped under the spell of a handsome and mysterious stranger, Sevy must fight fairies and tricksters to regain her freedom.

Or spend an eternity as a sorcerer’s plaything.

If you’ve been following my blog you’d know I’m a huge fan of the Sevy series and this one coming out soon has me really excited to see what will happen in the next adventure! Knowing Sarah-Jane it’s highly likely Sevy will be put through the ringer again, but I’m sure she’ll encounter some pretty amazing things along her way! You can check out my review for Thief here or for Shades of War here if you want to find out more about the previous two books. I would recommend buying and reading them both before Masquerade comes out, if you’d like to purchase them you can do so here.

Thank you so much for stopping by and feel free to leave a comment about what you think of Masquerade or your own Waiting On Wednesday post, I do read every one! You can also follow me if you’d like or check out my other posts, I do appreciate it. ^.^
